The animation shows the motions of the continents, including Antarctica, during the last 300 million years. Dark blue areas are deep ocean; light-blue areas are flooded continental shelves and oceanic plateaus; tan areas are land; and red areas are mountains. The number in the upper left shows millions of years before the present. You can move the continents forward and back in time by dragging the slider right and left.

The animation is created by Christopher Scotese at the Paleomap Project, where he has a wide variety of animations that show continental drift in the past and projected into the future.
